Carl Larsson's Getting Ready for a Game (1901)
Afternoon tea is a pleasant ritual following a day at our homeschool center. And, camomile tea after dinner is most soothing and civilized, according to my almost 16 year old son, who has lettered in high school wrestling and football. Lately our family has enjoyed playing Cranium after dinner and before bedtime stories. I found this lovely lullaby on the Sleepytime tea box:
"Every bear knows that honeyed tea can sweeten your dreams. So fill your mug, dearest one, and when it's time to glide beneath the silver, blissful waves of night, take a moment to reflect on the wisdom and insights you've gained this precious day. Rejoice in every melody you heard, the smiles you shared with strangers, the blissfully simple laugh of a child, the spun sugar clouds waltzing through a patch of topaz sky. Now snuggle into your favorite pillow and be filled with warmth and perfect peace." ~Debra Boker
What rituals keep you close to your dearies? Join me in a cup of tea?
Call your mother and God's Peace!

How nice to find you here. I didn't have a ritual of food or drink with my children, but the rocking chair was a wonderful time spent with them when they were little. That is where much of their Scripture was learned. Later it was lingering by the bedside for conversation and prayer before the evening ended.
When I followed your comment here, I laughed to myself joyfully, and then I realized my daughter had just told me that she hurt herself, so then we laughed together about the fact that I had absentmindely laughed at at her sad event.
My girls turned their snacktime into a tea time just yesterday. We got mint from the garden, and the girls kept asking for more sugar, which I had to pu ta limit to. They had cream cheese and jelly sandwiches with the crusts cut off to look fancy. Hannah spilled her cup about five times. I was the waitress, but after 20 minutes I went on strike so I could get a handle on the vegetarian feast I was sruggling to make.
Our girls' bedtime is 7:00, and they are tired then, so the only after dinner ritual we have is bath, book, and quiet playtime in room if we get all accomplished early.
The company that makes Cranium has a wonderful line of games for young children. We love Balloon lagoon and Cariboo and Hullabaloo.
I tried to call my mom today, but alas, no answer. Her life is much busier than mine.
Nothing is finer than a quiet moment with family or friends. If you bring your favorite brew, I'll make the cucumber sandwiches.
I thought I recognized that poet under the secret pen name and here you are...... and to accompany the joy is a small choir of finch and chickadee at my window. My sadness is lifted and sunlight breaks out from behind the cloud. This is a happy day.
Rituals? Nyssa and I have had many. Night time baths and book reading and snuggling and rocking in the glider. Always, always, always... Goodnight Moon and other stories by Margaret Wise Brown. The best rock-a-bye music on earth A Child's Gift of Lullabyes created by J. Aaron Brown (New Haven Kids) played every night. There were two or three different volumes of this CD and she had to have it along with Teddy, to go to sleep. I still have a CD in my bedside player for those nights when I really miss her.
When she was older we always had Saturday Girl's Lunch. Since we weren't fortunate to have any men around it would have to be called that. We ate every Saturday at a little sandwich shop run by the most lovely Christian lady, and she befriended us both. Later she gave Nyssa her first job there and it could not have been a better place for a teenager to work. Sadly, Donna passed away quite unexpectedly soon after we moved. I miss that ritual.
Sigh! I will bookmark you on my private bookmarks until such time as you wish, although it is all I can do to refrain from clicking you into the blogroll....
You have made this day glorious with your radiant reappearance... just like a butterfly.
Hello,
How wonderful to find you here.
We don't get to have dinner together all the time, but we have breakfast together on the days we will miss each other's company for dinner. Having the meal together is important to us. Beyond that, we have family game nights now that the youngest is able hold his own with number of games.
When I was growing up my parents took a few days a week to read as a family around the table. I really want to institute this! My husband reads bible stories now. Later on I'd like to incorporate the Lord of the Rings series (as my parents did) and the Narnia chrinicles (also as my folks did). After that there are so many classics to choose from.
Blogging rituals keep me busy. I see you can't give it up either, eh.
Camomile or chamomile? I should drink green tea for the health benefits. Cranium? I'm a "star performer."
I see my fav team won today. Your's is up as I write this.
Tea is great!!
I love hot baths, as well. And Hershey's Kisses.
